Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 21: To Kathmandu and then home!

01-the-whole-team-together-in-kathmandu

Wow! What an amazing adventure and a perspective-changing experience!  This photo of my group was taken when we arrived in Kathmandu at the beginning of this incredible journey.  Over the past 21 days we’ve gotten to know each other and made friendships that will last us a lifetime.  We’re back in Kathmandu now and waiting for the flights that will return us all to reality.  I’ll be on the first leg of my journey home tomorrow night (which is Sunday morning here in Nepal!).

Thank you to this group of wonderful people and to Berg Adventures for yet another stellar experience.  Thanks to my great sponsors, Homes Alive Pet Center and Lee Mein at the Canadian Martial Arts Center.  And thank you to all of you who followed my blog and (hopefully!) took this opportunity to offer either your time or some money in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge – after all, that was the point of this whole experience.  To get involved or donate, please visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge website or click the blue become a sponsor button to the left!

This is Trevor Stuart, signing off from Kathmandu, Nepal – see you in Lethbridge!

Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 20: Last day and a party with the Sherpas!

May 20, 2010 by Trevor

breakfast in NamcheWe had rain and lightning all of last night in Namche.  The sky was clear this morning though…thank goodness!  We had breakfast first thing this morning (this photo of my group was taken in our favorite breakfast-bakery!) then headed back to Lukla where we’ll spend the night in anticipation of catching a flight to Kathmandu tomorrow.  Looks like we will be able to fly out tomorrow morning after all!! YAY!!  16 days on the mountain is enough for me.  It was a magical trip and all, but it is time to get on with life.  Later tonight we have a celebratory party with the sherpas who accompanied us on our trek. They are so excited!! LOL! It’s cute to see their excitement!  Looks like I will be in Katmandu tomorrow as planned!  Oh! And don’t forget to check out our guide’s blog on the Berg Adventures website – she’s posted so many great photos of our group and has an interesting take on things!

I climbed to Everest Base Camp to raise money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters.  If you’re able to show your support by donating some time or money to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge, visit their website or click on the blue become a sponsor button to the left.  Thanks to everyone who has already donated.  And a big thanks to my great sponsors Homes Alive Pet Center and Lee Mein at the Canadian Martial Arts Centre!

Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 19: A change of plans!

May 19, 2010 by Trevor

yak break in PhericheWe decided to spend another night in Namche Bazaar.  There are several people over the age of 60 with us on this trek and everyone agreed…it was a good excuse for us ALL to have an extra day of rest! LOL!  This photo’s old (it’s from our descend to Pheriche back on Sunday) but I love it…even Yaks need a break at this elevation!  I kid…I’m feeling really good but I’m antsy to get going and start my journey back to Lethbridge!  But Namche has been a great stop over and resting place for me and for all of us…what a cool place!

I heard that Lukla Airport is closed and it has been for two days due to tropical rain storm. The lodges are all crammed with trekkers and returning expeditions from Everest. There are lots of anxious trekkers waiting for the weather to break! We’ll leave Namche tomorrow morning for Lukla. We’ll spend the night there and basically get in line for the planes. If the weather is bad we have no choice but to wait. So frustrating!

Oh…good news!  I just heard that the Lukla airport may open tomorrow!  I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

There are only a few days left for you to get involved in the 2010 Homes Alive Pet Center Climb for Kid’s Sake!  Please share this story with your family and friends.  And show your support for  this fantastic local organization by donating some time or money!  To make a pledge, click on the blue become a sponsor button to the left.  For more information, visit the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge website.
