Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 11: Pangboche to Pheriche in the shadow of Ama Dablam!

I am healthy and strong…unbelievably strong this time!  And I’m not finding anything too difficult, making for a fantastic trek in these unbelievable mountains.  The amazing Ama Dablam rises above us.  I can’t say enough about the stunning beauty of the Himalayas!

Before I left Lethbridge, I bought a bunch of stuff for the kids I was bound to meet along the trail.  Balls and recorders; glow sticks and tambourines; stickers and Canada stuff and more!  Today I gave all that stuff to the children at a primary school in Pangboche. What an incredible experience! Hopefully Leila will blog about it and put a photo on Bergs Adventures blog…I hope so! The primary school is the highest one in Nepal.  Here’s a video of some of the children (not my video, unfortunately, but charming!)

Today we also visited Lama Geshe today who blessed us all and said some beautiful prayers.  It was quite a ritual! Very cool!  We trekked from Pangboche to Pheriche today (check out this great video!) and got incredible photos and videos of the high peaks all around.  Pheriche is home of the Himalayan Rescue Association, a voluntary non-profit organization formed in 1973 to reduce casualties in the Himalayas of Nepal. 

We are very close to Everest now but we spend tomorrow here too.  So near yet so far…I can’t wait to get to base camp!
