Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 12: Acclimatizing near the Tibet border
May 12, 2010 by Trevor · Leave a Comment
I am here in Pembouche camp and have been since yesterday. We are acclimatizing at 14,000 feet and head uphill for Lobouche (Low boo shay) tomorrow…very close to base camp!
Yesterday morning I was able to reach the school at noon and give them all the gifts. What an amazing time I had there! I was told that the school we visited is the highest primary school in the world! Climbers in our camp tonight told me they saw children in villages above Pangbouche playing with the gifts I left at the school, so it was so worth it! It’s all about putting a smile on a child’s face for me! Take a look at this great photo. Man! Were those children excited! Please check out the Berg Adventures blog too…Laila has a fantastic write-up on there too.
Here in camp I am surrounded by some of the highest peaks inthe world! It is so incredible! In addition to Everest and Ama Dablam (which I showed you already) check out these great pix of Towache Peak, Kantega and Loboche Peak. These mountains are breathtaking!!

I am healthy and strong and hoping the rest of the trip goes well. Unfortunately, I may not be able to make my calls to the radio stations from Base Camp as planned. We’re experiencing issues with the internet and need to maintain battery strength for the satellite phone in case of an emergency. We expect to be in Base Camp on Saturday…I can’t wait!
Yesterday on the trail, I met a woman from Edmonton who summitted Everest on May 7th! I even got my photo with her and her guide and met her Sherpa! It was a brush with Fame for me and I am still gloating over it! I may be the first Albertan to have my photo with her!!
As always, let’s remember why I’m over here (having this AMAZING experience!) I’m climbing to raise money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge. Please share my blog with your friends and family. Show your support by donating some time or money in support of this great cause!
