Climb for Kid’s Sake Day 7: Hangin’ in Namche Bazaar
May 7, 2010 by Trevor · Leave a Comment
Today we acclimatized to the altitude, enjoying a full day in Namche. We woke up to amazing views of towering peaks all around us. Peaks that we couldn’t see yesterday due to low cloud cover and rain. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t clear enough to see Everest. :(
We had breakfast at 8 AM then made our way into the village below to see the sights. I got a one hour massage from a small Nepalese man that was so intense I can hardly even explain! We ate pizza (believe it or not!), shopped the narrow streets and watched the yaks go by with their neck bells chiming. On the hillsides dogs chased yaks and the army patrol the streets. I’m so enjoying learning about the deep traditions here!
I shopped the village, looking for gifts for my loved ones and looking for more clothes…I have a feeling I might need a layer or two more! There are shops everywhere with climbing gear, so I know I will find what I need! Tomorrow we start our climb to base camp and I’m so stoked!
I’m climbing to Everest Base Camp to raise money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters. This would not have been possible without the support of my clients and generous sponsors, particularly Homes Alive Pet Center and Lee Mein of the Canadian Martial Arts Center. A BIG thank you to you for stepping up to support this very worthy cause.
