Local Realtor Makes a “BIG” Difference
By Nancy Leggett
Local Realtor, Trevor Stuart, recently completed the second of two successful Climb for Kids Sake fundraisers on Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa. The climbs are ongoing events organized to raise money and awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Trevor’s climbs took place in March 2009 and February 2008.
Through his fundraising activities and generous sponsors, Trevor has raised in excess of $18,000 for Big Brother Big Sisters over the past two years. Local business owners Jack, Wilma and Quincy Neufeld were key sponsors for Stuart’s 2009 climb, personally donating $7,500 to the organization. Their decision to support Trevor was precipitated by his blog about the 2008 climb and his subsequent visit to an orphanage near Kilimanjaro. When asked why they decided to support Stuart, Quincy Neufeld stated, “Trevors passion for life, continued commitment to excellence, and the enthusiasm for making a change in our community, combined with Big Brothers Big Sisters dedication to the youth in our community, were the reasons we chose to be a part of this endeavor”
Rick Austin, Executive Director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge, acknowledges Stuart’s efforts, “Trevor truly exemplifies our “Be Big” concept.” Austin also acknowledged the significant contribution from both Stuart and the Neufelds, stating “Without support like this we could not provide our programs to the children to Lethbridge & District”.
Trevor, who funded the $30,000 cost of the two climbs personally, is already planning his next adventure in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters: a climb to Mount Everest Base Camp in May 2010. According to Stuart, “I’m hoping that climbing “BIG” mountains will get “BIG” results and awareness for the agency. In the end, getting all the ‘‘Littles” hooked up with a mentor is what it’s all about.”
Trevor lives and works in Lethbridge and is committed to giving back to the community that he calls home. In addition to his fundraising efforts on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Trevor is a “Big” to two little brothers himself.
